LIHU‘E — County officials are reminding residents who receive sewer service from the county to apply for the 2012 sewer credit program.
Qualified applicants will receive a $20 credit which will be applied to their sewer bill each month, amounting to a savings of $240 for the year. Those who currently receive a county sewer credit must re-apply for the program to be eligible for the credit next year. The deadline to apply for the program is Jan. 3.
Applicants must attach copies of the first two pages of their 2010 state and federal tax returns or complete the affidavit in the back of the application that he or she was not required to file 2010 tax returns.
To qualify for the credit, residential sewer users must meet the following criteria:
— Applicant must be receiving residential sewer service from the county.
— Applicant’s total adjusted gross income must be below $40,000 for the 2010 calendar year.
— Applicant may not be receiving sewer assistance payments from any organization.
— Only one residence may be claimed for the credit.
— The dwelling unit being claimed must be the applicant’s principal residence.
— Applicant’s sewer utility payments must be current including any sewer payment plan.
Applications are available at the Hanapepe, Kapa‘a, Lihu‘e and Waimea neighborhood centers, as well as at the Wastewater Management Division located at the Lihu‘e Civic Center, suite 500. Applications may also be downloaded from the county’s web site at www.kauai.gov. Completed applications must be submitted to the Wastewater Management Office or mailed and postmarked no later than Jan. 3 to Wastewater Management Division, 4444 Rice Street, Suite 500, Lihu‘e, HI 96766.
