The Kaua‘i Department of Water (DOW) mailed out final notices this week to Kilauea residents who live on Waiakalua and North Waiakalua streets who have not installed backflow prevention devices as required. The residents were given an additional 21 days to comply with the backflow prevention rule.
“This action was necessary to protect the public drinking water system from any potential backflow of contaminated water and is in accordance with the DOW’s rules and regulations,” DOW Manager and Chief Engineer David Craddick said in a news release. “The protection of our potable water systems is our responsibility and it is our highest priority.”
