Lexton Camat did more than lead Hanakila to a 43-29 win over Papalina-Blue Thursday night at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Camat extracted oohs and aahs from the crowd, launching a half-court bomb to mark the end of the fifth period during one of two games played in the county’s youth winter basketball league for grades 6 through 8.
Karen Matsumoto of the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association, who helps the county field the scoring table as well as floor officials, said that shot was the highlight of the night.
Camat finished with a game-high 17 points in Hanakila’s win. Kai Lewis led Papalina-Blue with eight points.
Kamea Alquiza topped the Lepo Ula scoring in its 55-32 win over Team Lihu‘e in the second match. Justin Fune and Levi Sagucio added nine and eight points, respectively.
Andrew Vetter led the Team Lihu‘e effort with seven points.
The young hoopsters split their games Saturday, the girls taking the floor at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center with two matches starting at 9 a.m., and the boys moving to the Kilauea Neighborhood Center with two games starting at 10 a.m.
Kaulupono, suffering a one-point loss to Team Lihu‘e last week, goes up against the undefeated Kamikaze starting at 9 a.m., followed by Team Lihu‘e matching up against the Kaua‘i Ballers at 10 a.m.
Westside travels to Kilauea to take on Team Central A starting at 10 a.m., followed by host Hanakila taking on the Kaua‘i Ballers at 11 a.m.
