The Kaua‘i High School girls soccer team earned the No. 2 seed for the Outrigger Hotels & Resorts Girls Soccer State Championships, Division II, which starts Wednesday at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex on O‘ahu.
The seeding earns the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation champions an opening day bye, which means they will meet the winner of the Kalaheo High School and Honoka‘a matchup Wednesday.
Kapa‘a High School, working behind a 2-0 shutout over Pac-Five Saturday at a play-in game at Vidinha Stadium, will represent the KIF, entering unseeded and opening the tournament against Seabury Hall at 3 p.m., Wednesday.
The winner of that match will advance to face No. 4 seed Waipahu High School at 3 p.m. Thursday.
Mid-Pacific, which relegated Pac-Five to the play-in game during the O‘ahu playoffs, earned the top seed for Division II. Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy earned the No. 3 seed.
Teams participating in the Division II tournament include Kamehameha Schools-Big Island, Radford, Leilehua and Makua Lani.
Kaua‘i High School finished runner-up in the 2011 tournament to Mid-Pacific Institute, and Kapa‘a finished runner-up to eventual tournament champion Pac-Five in the 2009 tournament.
Prior to the two-division tiers, the Kapa‘a Warriors finished runner-up in the 12-team state tournament to Punahou in 1998.
The championship match for Division II will take place at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Waipio Main Stadium.
Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama was named top seed for the girls in Division I. Moanalua earns the No. 2 seed, followed by Baldwin High School of the Maui Interscholastic League getting the No. 3 seed. Kealakehe of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation gets the No. 4 seed for Division I.
Teams participating in the Division I tournament include Kamehameha Schools-Maui, Kaiser, Kapolei, Mililani, Konawaena, Pearl City, Iolani and ‘Aiea.
The championship game for Division I will start at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Waipio Main Stadium.
