About 350 people attended the 12th Annual Kaua’i Filipino Chamber of Commerce gala, where guest speaker Dr. Amy Agbayani of the University of Hawai‘i at Mano urged members to support community leaders and encourage young people to pursue a higher education.
The event was held Saturday at the Kaua‘i Marriott Resort & Spa on Saturday to celebrate this year’s recipients of the chamber’s Distinguished Service awards, a news release stated.
Distinguished Service award winners included: Joel Navasca, owner of Tiano’s Restaurant in the category of entrepreneurship; Barbara Bennett, publisher of For Kaua‘i in the category of individual member; Mike Martinez of State Farm for corporate member; Arthur Umezu of the Kaua‘i Film Commission for humanitarian service, and Lifetime Achievement for Cesar Portugal of PORTech Inc. and Ernesto Pasion, chamber president for 2007-2009 and 2010-2011.
