LIHU‘E — Outrigger Hotels and Resorts has been named the title sponsor of the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Soccer State Championships and the official hospitality partner of the HHSAA.
“Outrigger Hotels and Resorts is a long-time supporter of our island communities and we are excited they have joined forces with HHSAA as a corporate sponsor,” said Chris Chun, executive director of the HHSAA, during the announcement, Thursday on O‘ahu. “Outrigger and HHSAA share the same views on the importance and benefits of athletic opportunities for our youth, making this a great partnership.”
The girls’ championship is scheduled for Feb. 1 through 4, featuring Division I and Division II tournaments consisting of 12 teams in each division.
The boys’ tournament takes place Feb. 15 through 18 with 12 teams in Division I and eight teams in Division II.
Both tournaments will unfold at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex on O‘ahu.
Kaua‘i High School girls under head coach Reiko Yoshida will represent the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation.
Kapa‘a High School, with Lynn Minei and her ‘ohana coaching, is the runner-up in the KIF and will face Pac-5, an O‘ahu team, Saturday starting at 4 p.m., the winner advancing to the Division II bracket of the girls’ championships.
The Kapa‘a High School boys, with Kevin Cram as its head coach, wrapped up the KIF boys’ title, Wednesday, following a 3-1 win over Island School.

Carey said this year, Outrigger celebrates its 65th anniversary of providing hospitality services to kama‘aina and travelers from across the globe.
“An integral part of our company culture has always involved giving back to our island communities and we are excited to add the sponsorship of HHSAA and the HHSAA Soccer State Championships during this milestone year,” he said.
Eight of the girls and boys soccer matches will be televised to a statewide audience live on OC16, and to a worldwide audience streaming online at www.oc16.tv.
