Kristle Henry led the Kaua‘i High School girls basketball team to a 43-23 win over the Honoka‘a Dragons on Wednesday during the Hawaiian Airlines 36th Annual Girls Basketball State Championships on O‘ahu.
Henry took control of the scoring duties for the No. 4-seeded Red Raiders in Division II play, netting a game-high 24 points, including a six-for-12 showing at the free throw line.
Kaua‘i and Honoka‘a started slow, feeling each other with the Red Raiders holding a two-point lead, 9-7, at the end of the first quarter.
A 14-4 surge in the second quarter had the Red Raiders holding a 23-11 lead at the half.
The Dragons came back in the third quarter, outgunning Kaua‘i 7-6, before the Red Raiders put the game to bed with a 14-5 final period.
Following Henry’s lead, senior Bristy Agu finished with nine points, including a one-for-three at the charity line. Jennifer Grady ended with four points. Casey Anacleto, Kawehi Louis-Diamond and Caitlyn Rapozo each added pairs.
Hunter Liftee topped the Dragons’ scoring with six points, followed by Yvonne Daniels and Jasmine Castro each adding three points.
With the win, Kaua‘i advances into the Division II semifinals against Hawai‘i Prep at 5 p.m. today.
