Jannin Hashizume of the Kaua‘i High School girls soccer team and Rachel Hinkel of the Kapa‘a girls soccer team were named to the 2012 Division II All-Tournament Team following the 2012 Outrigger Hotels & Resorts/Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Girls Soccer Championships on Saturday night.
The association’s Wes Nakama made the announcement late Saturday night following the completion of the Division I and Division II championships at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex.
Hashizume was named to one of the midfield positions and Hinkel secured one of the four forward berths in the Division II all-tourney squad, which saw A.J. Johnson of Mid Pacific Institute earn the Most Outstanding Player award, and the top-seeded Owls edging out No. 3 Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy 1-0 for the Division II title Saturday night.
Hinkel scored Kapa‘a’s second goal Wednesday night in the Warriors’ 3-0 win against Seabury Hall to advance against No. 4 seeded Waipahu in the tournament, being joined by Taylor Ochoa who opened the books in the 66th minute followed by Hinkel in the 69th minute and Tori Pezario capping the win 10 minutes later.
Hinkel, the tall forward for Kapa‘a, capped the 3-1 edge in the 46th minute after Ochoa and Cassie Wilson put Kapa‘a up 2-1 at the half. Ochoa found the net in the first minute of play followed by Wilson scoring at the 20th minute. A late goal with about a minute in the half by Jahna Tacson of Waipahu kept the seeded team in the chase.
Johnson, named the Division II Outstanding Player, capped the Mid Pacific 2-0 win over Kapa‘a to end the Warriors’ scoring at the tournament.
Kapa‘a finished fourth in the tournament following a 2-0 loss at the hands of Kaua‘i on Saturday, the Red Raiders of the KIF getting both of those goals from Hashizume — the first in the ninth minute and the second in the 15th minute.
Hashizume opened the Kaua‘i action Friday, scoring in the 16th minute in the Red Raiders’ 3-2 edge over Kalaheo High School. The midfielder’s goal was advancing to face No. 3 seed Hawai‘i Prep, junior varsity upgrade Kaylee Tamura, playing the midfield, brought the Red Raiders to a 1-1 tie in the 25th minute before two second-half goals from Ka Makani spelled an end to the 3-1 loss in the semifinals.
Kaua‘i finished third following its 2-0 win over Kapa‘a.
The boys will open their state championships Feb. 15 through Feb. 18 at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex on O‘ahu, the KIF being represented by the Kapa‘a High School boys in the 2012 Outrigger Hotels & Resorts Boys Division I and II state tournament.
