Valentine’s Day is coming up and I’d like to dedicate this column to all the couples out there. I have compiled a few of my favorite romance movies that my boyfriend and I enjoy watching when it’s just the two of us. Happy Valentine’s Day to you all, and I hope every one of you has someone special with which to share it.
“The Notebook” was released in 2004 and stars Racheall McAdams and Ryan Gosling. The movie starts of with an elderly man reading a book to an elderly woman in a nursing home. He explains how the love of Noah (Ryan Gosling) and Allie (Racheal McAdams) started many years ago. Allie is wealthy and Noah is poor and Allie’s parents disapprove of their relationship so Allie is forced to leave her home town and part with Noah. Years later, these love birds find each other and their love is given a second try. “The Notebook” is rated PG-13 and is 103 minutes long. This is one of my favorite movies and I always make time to watch it! I rate it nine out of 10 stars.
“Time Travelers Wife” was released in 2009 and stars Rachael McAdams and Eric Bana. The movie’s title sums up its story line and main character. Henry (Eric Bana) is the time traveler, whose body contains a gene that causes him to physically travel through time. The love of Henry and Clare (Rachael McAdams) spans decades as Henry flashes in and out of her life, starting at a very young age. “Time Travelers Wife” can get a bit confusing at times, with the flashbacks and flashforwards; but without a doubt, it is very romantic. It is one of those movies made for cuddling up with your special someone and enjoying an evening together. “Time Travelers Wife” is rated PG-13 and runs 107 minutes long. I rate it nine out of 10 stars.
“Titanic” was released in 1998 and stars Leonardo Decaprio and Kate Winslet. The film is based on the ship Titanic, which sunk in 1912, but was given a romantic twist. Jack (Leonardo Decaprio) and Rose (Kate Winslet) find each other aboard the same ship heading to the U.S. and fall in love. Rose, who is engaged, finds herself falling head over heels for this stranger named Jack, who she met when he saves her from jumping overboard one evening. Jack is a poor drifter and Rose is from a wealthily family who has mapped out her life. Having to sneak around the ship to find places to meet to see each other soon becomes tricky, as Rose’s mother discovers her secret. As the Titanic starts to sink and with moments left to live, Rose and Jack’s love becomes stronger than ever as they work together to stay alive. “Titanic” is rated PG-13 and is 194 minutes in length. I rate it eight and a half stars out of 10.
“Romeo and Juliet” was released in 1996 and stars Leonardo Decaprio and Claire Danes. The movie follows William Shakeshere’s original dialoge set in modern- day Verona. Star-crossed lovers, Romeo (Leonardo Decaprio) and Juliet (Claire Danes) are from two feuding families and have fallen in love. They hide their love from the world because they know their parents will forbid them from being together. “Romeo and Juliet” is rated PG-13 and runs for 120 minutes. I rate it seven out of 10 stars.
