Sophie Britzmann, Anya Littlefield, Kate Machorek and Yasmine Ware will be participating at the 2012 Speedo Champions Series Western Region Sectional Championship meet Thursday through Sunday in Federal Way, Wash.
“This is Swim Kaua‘i Aquatics’ third year in a row to attend Senior Sectionals, and we have doubled our team which we have sent every year,” said SKA Head Coach Billy Brown. “In 2010, Anya was the first from SKA to qualify, and in 2011 we had Anya and Yasmine. Now, Kate and Sophie have qualified for the Senior Sectionals.”
Brown said he is proud of these qualifiers and how much hard work they put in to get to this point.
“This is the first year we’ll be having a relay team, so that will be so exciting for all of us, too,” Brown said.
The Senior Sectionals will be held at the world-class Weyerhauser King County Aquatic Center, recently the site of the 2012 PAC 12 Women’s College Championships and the Men’s 2012 NCAA Division I Championships.
The center also hosted the 2009 U.S. Open, Junior Nationals and Short Course Nationals.
Brown said the four girls have qualified for five relay events including the 200-, 400-, and 800-yard freestyle relays as well as the 200- and 400-yard medley relays.
Each swimmer will also be competing in individuals events, adding valuable experience at the Regional level, Brown said.
Because 2012 is an Olympic year, Olympians such as Missy Franklin will be competing at this meet. The meet will also host top level swimmers from throughout Hawai‘i.
