WAILUA — Daezsa Tomas fired a two-under par 34 on the back nine to lead the Kaua‘i High School girls to their third straight title match on Monday at the Wailua Golf Course.
After being rained out twice, the round played Monday was a make-up.
Taylor Viquelia, the girls’ leader during the Saturday round of Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation golf, was one-over par 37 at the crossing, but finished four strokes back of Tomas for a 75, one stroke back of Tomas’ 74 (40-34).
Janae Park, who finished as an individualist Saturday, overtook Sabrina Barrier to round out the girls’ team score of 252, Park finishing with a 103 (54-49) over Barrier (58-53-111).
Both Kapa‘a and Waimea High Schools fielded two players apiece, one shy of the three needed scores.
Mariah Paiste posted the best round for the girls with an even-par 36 at the crossing, but dropped to 47 on the back nine for an 83. Kawena Warren finished with a 90 (48-42) for the Waimea girls.
Na‘ea Oda was greeted by mylar balloons and a “Happy Birthday” banner at the end of 18 holes, the Kapa‘a freshmen posting an 84 (41-43) followed by Meleane Moala at 107 (55-52).
The Kaua‘i boys, holding off Kapa‘a by 14 strokes Saturday, continued to hold off the Warriors, this time taking a 343-327 win, led by Reyn Morioka’s 75 (38-37).
This is the third time the Raiders’ win was sparked by a different golfer. Saturday’s victory was paced by Pono Tokioka, who finished No. 4 in the gusting winds Monday.
Braeden Robley, finishing in a tie with Morioka at 77 Saturday, came in four strokes back of Morioka at 79 (40-39), with Jamie Amimoto at 84 (41-43) and Tokioka rounding out the win at 89 (43-46).
Kenji Miyata of Kapa‘a, finishing in a tie with Tokioka at 75 Saturday, settled for the No. 2 spot Monday, carding an 81 (42-39) below Bryden Salvador, playing in the same foursome flanked by a large gallery. Salvador topped the Warrior scoring with an 80 (43-37).
Jordan Guerrero (46-41-87) filled in the No. 3 spot, and Mitchell Alves (50-45-95) rounded out the Warrior scoring.
The arrival of the Miller brothers, Daniel and Michael, put Island School in team scoring after fielding only three players Saturday.
Michael Miller topped the Island School 389 scoring with an 87 (41-46) followed by Daniel Miller (49-44-93), Jacob Dysinger (52-51-103) and Adam Sciafani (58-48-106). Teddy Rose (62-52-114) finished as an individualist.
Other Kaua‘i High School boys individualists include Kai Adachi (44-45-89), Vance Tokita (45-46-91), Logan Keeler (53-50-103), Jeremy Felizardo (53-48-101), Jordan Serrano (50-45-95) and Kenneth Chun (51-54-105).
Kapa‘a boys individualists include Landon Ishida (50-49-99), Kawika Wellington (42-49-91), Anthony Aiwohi (45-48-93) and Tyler Carvalho (68-60-128).
KIF golf continues Saturday at the Kaua‘i Lagoons course, with the first group leaving the tee at noon.
