WAILUA — Taylor Viquelia fired a one-over par 73 to lead the Kaua‘i girls team to a team-total 268 as the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation registered its first golf match of the season on Saturday at the Wailua Golf Course.
Kenji Miyata, the Kapa‘a High School leading boys golfer, fired off a three-over par 75, but it was the 77 carded by Kaua‘i’s Jamie Amimoto which broke a tie with Kapa‘a.
Both teams ended with 332 following the posting of the four top boys score from each school.
Island School, playing its first team in the school’s history, finished with a 431.
Following Viquelia at 73, Daezsa Tomas, a returning golfer, finished with an 80 followed by Janae Park adding 115 to the team’s 268 total.
Sabrina Barrier finished with a 113 in individual play for the Red Raider ladies.
Na‘ea Oda topped the Warriors’ girls individualists, finishing the round at 90 followed by Meleane Moala carding a 147.
Waimea freshman Kawena Warren, coming from the school’s state award-winning cheer squad, carded a 98.
Miyata, struggling against the humidity and still air last week in the match, which was shortened by the arrival of a weekend storm, rebounded and played consistent for his three-over par round.
Amimoto, coming in the last half of the groupings, followed with a 77 to lead the Red Raider boys, Pono Tokioka, the lead golfer for Kaua‘i, finishing two strokes back with a 79.
Reyn Morioka, charging through some of the holes, ended with an 86 with Kai Adachi and Vance Tokita tying with 90 each for the team scoring.
Jordan Guerrero did a good job of playing his own game, finishing the round at 85 for Kapa‘a, followed by Landon Ishida also finishing at 85. Bryden Salvador ended two strokes back at 87, and Anthony Aiwohi rounded out the team showing with a 102.
Jaycob Dysinger topped the Island School quartet with a 97 followed two strokes back by Michael Miller at 99, Adam Sciafani at 112 and Terry Rose rounding out the Voyagers at 123.
Kahili Manoi-Resinto started for the Menehune, but withdrew.
Braeden Robley topped the Red Raider individualists for boys with a 76 — followed by Jordan Serrano (101), Logan Keeler (102) and Jeremy Felizardo (120).
Nalu Akiona led the Warrior individualists for boys with a 93, tying with Kawika Wellington, and Mitchell Alves rounded out the showing at 99.
The KIF Match No. 3 will be played at noon Saturday at the Kaua‘i Lagoons Golf Club.
