A 2009 graduate of Kaua‘i High School, where he lettered four years in golf and finished as a Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation Individualist in 2008 and 2009, Oride led the University of Hawai‘i golf team to a 10th place finish at the Omni Tucson National Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz., on Saturday.
Oride, the son of Dr. Michael and Gail Oride, led the Hawai‘i team, individually, finishing in a tie for 26th place after shooting a final-round 74. He finished the tournament at seven-over par (77-72-74-223).
Also competing in the tournament, Kaua‘i golfer T.J. Kua, a senior, finished tied for 56th place at 231 (78-77-76). Also competing were sophomore David Saka (75-73-79-227) and freshmen Ryan Kuroiwa (80-72-76-228) and Brian Lee (79-75-78-232).
San Diego State edged out the University of Las Vegas by one stroke to take the team title at 859, J.J. Spaun shooting a final-round four-under 68 to take the individual title at 15-under par.
