Due to the poor weather conditions on Kaua‘i, several Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation sporting events scheduled for today have been cancelled.
Kaua‘i Lagoons will be closing its course today, said Ross Shimabukuro, athletic director for Kaua‘i High School.
The closure will mean the cancellation of the KIF golf which was scheduled to start at noon.
Additionally, because of the weather, the KIF Tennis match between Island School and Kaua‘i High School, scheduled for the Kaua‘i Lagoons courts, will also be canceled, Shimabukuro said.
A decision on the status of the KIF baseball game between Kaua‘i and Waimea high schools at Hanapepe Stadium was uncertain as of Friday afternoon, Shimabukuro noted that Waimea wants to wait until 8 a.m. today to make a final decision on whether or not to play the game.
No confirmation could be obtained on the status of the KIF softball game at the new softball field in Kapa‘a where the Warriors are hosting Waimea in a double-header, the first pitch going at 10 a.m.
Also, no confirmation could be obtained on the KIF Tennis match between Kapa‘a and Waimea, the match being scheduled at the Hanapepe tennis courts.
Kerrilyn Villa of the Garden Isle Racing Association said the drag race event at the Kaua‘i Raceway Park in Mana has been canceled.
Clyde Vito, site manager for the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center, said all five basketball games scheduled for Saturday have been canceled due to the weather conditions. A date for the make-up games has not been determined, he said.
