WAILUA — Kaua‘i’s Pono Tokioka and Kapa‘a’s Kenji Miyata tied with a three-over par 75 on Saturday during the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation Golf Match No. 2 at the Wailua Golf Course.
Jamie Amimoto, who helped push Kaua‘i boys to a win during the KIF Match No. 1, finished with a 77 along with Reyn Morioka, and Braeden Robley ended with an 86 to give Kaua‘i a 14-stroke edge over Kapa‘a, the team totaling 315 strokes to the Kapa‘a boys’ 329, its Nos. 2-3-4 golfers giving the Red Raiders its win.
Following Miyata, Kapa‘a got 80 from both Bryden Salvador and Jordon Guerrero, with Kawika Wellington ending with a 94 for the Warriors’ team scoring.
Waimea High School did not field any boys for the match. Island School fielded three individualists, one shy of team scoring as Teddy Rose (119), Jacob Dysinger (100) and Adam Sciafani (115) represented the Voyagers.
Taylor Viquelia topped the Kaua‘i girls’ scoring with a 79 to lead the Red Raider wahine to its 251 showing over Waimea. Waimea was led by Mariah Paiste’s 83, the Menehune finishing with a team 372.
Following Viquelia, Kaua‘i got 80 from Daezsa Tomas and 92 from Sabrina Barrier. Janae Park finished with 100 as a Red Raider individualist.
Following Paiste, Waimea got 105 from Kawena Warren and 184 from Juilette Cowell.
Na‘ea Oda was the sole Warrior girl, finishing the day with the best round of the wahine golfers at 77, two strokes ahead of Kaua‘i’s Viquelia.
Other Red Raider golfers included Kai Adachi (87), Vance Tokita (94), Logan Keeler (98), Jeremy Felizardo (112), Jordan Serrano (94) and Kenneth Chung (105).
Kapa‘a boys individualists included Landon Ishida (94), Mitchell Alves (87), Anthony Aiwohi (93) and Tyler Carvalho (128).
With the recent inclement weather playing havoc on the KIF golf season, the first of two make-up games will be played today at the Wailua Golf Course. The first groups tee off at noon.
