LIHU‘E — The Hawai‘i Interagency Council on Homelessness is seeking public feedback this month on its draft strategic plan to prevent and end homelessness in Hawai‘i, a news release states.
“Thanks to the collaborative work of the Interagency Council, we’ve taken great steps in moving forward on the state’s homelessness initiatives,” Gov. Neil Abercrombie said in the announcement. “We are aiming to have a solid statewide plan in place by June to guide our ongoing efforts in confronting homelessness.”
The council will hold eight community meetings throughout the state. The first is on Kaua‘i, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall in Lihu‘e. Participants are encouraged to view the plan in advance and to confirm meeting dates, times and locations.
For more information about the proposed plan, visit http://hawaii.gov/dhs/HomelessnessPlan. Community members who are unable to attend meetings can offer their comments online at that website.
The draft plan outlines four goals: to retool the homeless crisis response system, increase access to stable and affordable housing, increasing economic stability, and improve health and stability.
