Taba launched his bombs from outside the three-point arc in the fourth period to secure Papalina-Orange’s lead over Team Central White en route to its 21-13 win in one of three boys games at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
When the dust settled, Taba topped all scorers with 10 points. Kaimani Tecson led the Team Central White effort with nine points.
D. J. Pabre, after sharing the leading scorer spot with T.J. Apilado during the week, regained his spot, nailing a game-high 13 points to lead Westside Basketball to a 25-16 win over Team Central Black.
Team Central Black, coached by Stephen Pascua, Guy Higa and Ipo Yoshioka, opened on a winning note, taking a 10-3 lead after the opening stanza.
But Westside rebounded with 6-0 and 5-0 frames to take a 14-10 lead at the half and continued to chip away for the win, holding Team Central Black to just six second-half points.
Jacob Young topped the Team Central Black effort with eight points, followed by Kurtis Fujito-Pascua, nailing three-balls in the first and fourth frames, adding six points.
Teili Fonua and Micah Lalin helped the Kaua‘i Ballers scoring with nine and eight points, respectively, to lead the team coached by Willy Aki, to a 52-32 win over Team Lihu‘e Bulls in the final boys matchup.
Brenton Garcia finished with 11 points to lead the win followed by Lalkin and Fonua. R.J. Garcia and Chysen Barretto each finished with six points for the Kaua‘i Ballers.
Jacob Lombardo, as he’s done throughout the recent Team Lihu‘e games, topped the scoring with a game-high 16 points in a losing effort, with Grant Urmatam adding nine points.
Samantha Coloma dominated the court in the Team Lihu‘e 2 matchup against Team Lihu‘e 1, the Teresa Gonsalves-led team getting 19 points from Coloma in its 33-14 win over Team Lihu‘e 1.
Tiana Manera added six points in the win while Justine Lopez-Henry topped the Team Lihu‘e 2, coached by Cissy Edwards, effort.
The Tolenea sisters, Keani and Shanol, combined for 14 points to lead Hanakila to a 30-22 win over Kaulupono in the final game to wrap up the county’s Division II youth basketball league.
Keani, the low post for Hanakila, topped the win on eight points, followed by Shanol adding six points. Angelica Cudiamat, J. Casem and Asia Boiser each finished with four points.
Taegan Keep topped the Kaulupono effort on 12 points, followed by guards Monique Lorenzo and China Yasay adding four points apiece.
