LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Division of the state Health Department presented 412 pounds of food and more than $130 in cash to the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank on Wednesday.
The delivery represented a collection of food from various division offices in a food drive coordinated by staff member Vanessa Cummings.
“We appreciate the efforts by the Health Department’s Kaua‘i Division,” said Kelvin Moniz, food resource director for the food bank.
“They are out working with the community on a daily basis, and this extra effort by its employees to help the community is truly special,” Moniz said.
A few more days remain in the KIFB Spring Healthy Food and Fund Drive, which ends April 30. Moniz said more food drives by other groups still are under way.
Kalaheo Elementary School, in addition to its contribution from a recent school food drive, is offering free admission to the children’s performance of “Alice in Wonderland” to children 12 and under who bring canned goods for donation to the food bank.
The play is scheduled at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the school’s cafeteria.
The goal for the KIFB Spring Healthy Food and Fund Drive is $100,000 and 100,000 pounds of food.
Contributions can be dropped off at any of the fire stations on the island, or at the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank in Nawiliwili.
