Westside Basketball suffered a rare defeat Tuesday night at the hands of Hanakila at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
D.J. Pabre of Westside Basketball netted a game-high 15-points with T.J. Apilado adding eight points, but Hanakila built on a 24-19 halftime lead to take the contest, 43-31.
Westside Basketball, trailing 24-6 following two six-minute periods of play, outgunned Hanakila, 13-0 in the third frame to end chasing five points at the half.
Opening the fourth period, Westside Basketball continued to outgun Hanakila, 4-2, before the team comprised of players from the Hanalei to Kilauea area fired off an 11-4 fifth period and iced the win 6-4 in the final stanza.
Lexton Camat and Dutch Fairbanks set the pace for Hanakila, finishing with 12 and 11 points, respectively, while Hero Roslin added nine points.
Leeon Runny of the Lihu‘e Kamikaze shared the same fate as Westside Basketball, Runny scoring a game-high 14 points, the majority raining during the final period, in the Kamikaze’s 38-19 loss to Papalina-Orange in the nightcap.
Taylon Yadao and Trey Taba each fired seven points to lead the Papalina-Orange victory, Blake Lewis finishing with six points, Nehemiah Sanches and Isahn Ulanday each netting five points.
Following Runny’s lead for the Kamikaze, Micah Matsunaga ended with three points and Kampbell Hanano added a pair in the effort.
The county’s Division II boys youth basketball winds down this week with just three regularly-scheduled games on tap starting at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Saturday is reserved for make-up games from the recent heavy rains that forced several cancellations.
