KALAHEO — Once again, the National Tropical Botanical Garden is offering a free Mother’s Day Open House in the Allerton Garden on Mother’s Day this Sunday.
This family event provides a special opportunity for Kaua‘i residents to explore a garden National Geographic Traveler magazine named as one of “50 Places of a Lifetime.”
All of Kaua‘i is invited to enjoy a day in the garden with family and friends at NTBG’s South Shore locations.
Tourists travel thousands of miles from around the world to see this beautiful property with its extensive plant collections, shady pathways and iconic tropical trees.
The first tram will depart from the South Shore Visitors Center at 9:30 a.m., with trams regularly transporting visitors into the valley on a first-come, first-served basis.
The last tram leaves at 1 p.m. Trams will return from the garden to the visitors center until the last tram out of Lawa‘i Valley at 3 p.m.
Once down in the valley, visitors can stroll through the garden with its artistic waterways, fountains, pools, and outdoor “rooms.”
Food and drinks will be available for purchase in the valley.
Visitors can shop for handmade goods from the garden’s craft volunteers, and the event will feature a keiki station with face-painting, music, a bake sale, and a drawing for prizes at the visitors center.
Guests should wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a reusable bottle water and mosquito repellant.
NTBG’s South Shore Visitors Center is located at 4425 Lawa‘i Road in Po‘ipu, across from Spouting Horn.
