Placido Valenciano
Placido Dias Valenciano of Hanapepe, Kaua‘i, died on May 17, 2012, at the age of 95. He was born on March 16, 1917, in Dingras, Philippines. He was a welding instructor in the U.S. Army, and a former Civil Service Commissioner. He also worked with the Salary Advisory Committee for the County of Kaua‘i.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Faustino and Patricia Valenciano; daughter, Mary Sandra Claire; and his brother, Mariano Valenciano.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Bolosan Valenciano; two sons, Placido (Michelle) Valenciano of Lihu‘e and Randal (Debbie) Valenciano of Lihu‘e; four daughters, Patricia (Roland) Pablo of Waimea, Glenda (Reynold) Miyazaki of Lawai, Marilyn (Walter) Billingsley of Oahu, and Crystal (Bob) Rowe of Wailua; 14 grandchildren, Jayson (Cecilie) Pablo, Tracy (Don) Pablo Sanchez, Corey Pablo, Travis (Jana) Miyazaki, Craig Miyazaki, Geoffrey (Brittany) Billingsley, Tony Billingsley, Logan Rowe, Whitney Rowe, Stephen Valenciano, Ryan Valenciano, Marisa Valenciano, Dreana Valenciano and Randon Valenciano; four great-grandchildren, Courtney Guirao, Malie Miyazaki, Jack Billingsley and Colton Billingsley; a brother, Jauan Valenciano; and a sister, Virginia Ballesteros.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 2 at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Service to begin at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery. The family suggests casual attire.

Salud Rivera
Salud Galapon Rivera of Lihu‘e died May 13, 2012, at Garden Isle Health Care at the age of 89. She was born on February 6, 1923 in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. She was a homemaker and a seamstress.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Pedro R. Rivera, her parents, Ambrosio and Maria Galapon and her sister Caridad Aguinaldo.
She is survived by her daughter Erlinda R. (Alberto) Salvador of Hanama‘ulu; son Norberto A. (Brigitte) Rivera of Wailua Homesteads; grandchildren, Allyne (Lyle) Pagatpatan of Honolulu, Lorna (Benjamin) Probasco, Artemio (Maricel) Rivera, and Duane Rivera of Lihu‘e; great-grandchildren, Ashten and Landen Pagatpatan, Blake and Lorin Probasco, Matthew and Mason Rivera, Sean Castilleja; brothers Leopoldo Galapon of Hilo; Mariano Galapon of Canada; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Thursday, May 31, at Immaculate Conception Church. Visitation from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Mass at 10 a.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Misao Tanaka
Misao Tanaka, 100, of Kapa‘a, was born on June 22, 1911 in Hilo, and died March 17, 2012 in Torrance, Calif.
Funeral services were private.
She is survived by her children, Iris (Edwin) Fujii, Lois (Robert) Tanaka and Lei (Arthur) Azama, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Fernando Dizol Jr.
Fernando “Sonny” Dizol Jr., of Koloa, Kaua‘i, Hawai‘i died on May 17, 2012, at Straub Hospital, O‘ahu at the age of 78.
He was born on December 28, 1933, in Kilauea, Kaua‘i. He retired from the County of Kaua‘i Parks and Recreation division. He was also a veteran in the United States Navy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fernando and Sylvia Kaho‘ohanohano Dizol Sr. He is survived by his wife, Zina Kilauano Dizol of Koloa; five sons, Fernando (Francine) Dizol III of Lihu‘e, Alan Dizol Sr. of Colorado, Mark (Dawn) Dizol of Lawa‘i, James (Zenaida) Dizol of Koloa, Kekoa (Delia) Dizol of Koloa; seven daughters, Vicki Mostofo of Colorado, Selina (Rolando) Galvan of Colorado, Kawailani Kilauano of Kekaha, Elizabeth Dizol of Koloa, Raylene “Sissy” Kahale of Koloa, Andra Ota of Lihu‘e, Leanora Kaiaokamalie of Koloa; one brother, Alex Dizol of Missiouri; one sister, Eleanor Tamura of Honolulu; 20 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit the family on Friday June 1, 2012, at Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints, Kekaha Ward. Visitation at 9 a.m. Servcies to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kekaha Hawaiian Cemetery. Luncheon to follow.

Francis Pahia
Francis Pahia died at the age of 85 on May 5, 2012, peacefully at home. He was born on March 16, 1927, in Honolulu. He was retired from the United States Air Force and the Operating Engineers. He also worked for Hawaiian Telephone, Tom Okada Trucking Company, and the State Tile Company, Peter Kiewit & co., Morrison & Knudsen and Hawaiian Dredging Company.
He was predeceased by daughter Darlene Kaanoi and son James Daniel Pahia.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie Abigail Kaui Ornellas Pahia, daughters, Patricia Kanohokula, Laura Limo (Ernie), Linda Canincia (Robert), Charlene Omura (Letty), and Karen Pahia; son Gary Francis Pahia; brother John of Las Vegas, sister Rose Gleason of Mililani; 26 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren; step-children Henry (Rowena) Ornellas, Katherine (Samuel) Huddy Sr., Patsy (Francis) Hapenney and Daniel Kama, and 12 Grandchildren, 22 Great-grandchildren, 11 Great-grandchildren.
Visitation 9 a.m.-10 a.m., services 10 a.m.-11 a.m. on June 13, 2012, at Mililani Makai Chapel. Burial to follow at Punchbowl Cemetery. Casual attire, flowers welcome.
Wilson Atkins
Wilson “Tom” Harry Atkins of Lihu‘e died at home on May 23, 2012, at the age of 93. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska on October 29, 1918, and retired as a Real Estate Broker with Coldwell Banker.
He is survived by three sons, Jim Rose, Ty Atkins, Dave Atkins, Fred Atkins; one daughter, Nancy Palmer; 25 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held in California.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Atkins family with arrangements.
John Kuehu Sr.
John Hervan “Chonney” Kuehu Sr. of Anahola, Kaua‘i, Hawai‘i passed away on May 24, 2012, at his residence at the age of 83. He was born in Hanalei on November 30, 1928. John is a retired Mason.
He was preceded in death by parents, Solomon and Helen Kuehu, sons Lance and James Kuehu and great-grandson Naia Kaimana Pohaiohukealoha O Kekai Makanikona Kuehu.
He is survived by his wife, Juliette Leinani Kuehu; sons John (Bootsie) Kuehu Jr. of Anahola, Derek (Mona) Kuehu of Kapa‘a, Terrill Kuehu of Anahola, Garret “Rocky” Kuehu of O‘ahu; daughters Juliette Roberts of Lihu‘e, Lorren “Baby” (Tad) Kuehu of Wailua, Blaze “Bert” Kaauwai of Anahola, brothers Richard Kaaumoana of O‘ahu, Harry (Barbara) Kaaumoana of Kilauea; sisters, Hanna Kaaumoana, Mauai Rebecca Maka of Ha‘ena; 20 granchildren and 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday June 2, 2012, at the Veterans Cemetery Pavilion in Hanapepe. Visitation is at 9:30 a.m., Service at 10:15 a.m. and burial to follow at 1 p.m.

Harris Takiguchi
Harris Tsutomu Takiguchi of Lihu‘e died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on May 19, 2012, at the age of 89. He was born in Kealia, Kaua‘i on April 26, 1923, and was the entrepreneur of Hideaway and City Liquor.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Tadashi and Makoto.
He is survived by his wife, Sueko Takiguchi; sons Henry (Dale) Takiguchi, John (Donna) Takiguchi; daughter, Kathy (Ross Shimonishi) Takiguchi; sister, Takiko Takiguchi; three grandsons, David & Aaron Takiguchi, Ryan (Clente) Takiguchi, step-grandchildren, Jonathan Barretto, Jaryn (Derek) Gandia; step-great grandchildren, Joshua & Jaden Gandia, Micah, Jordan & Hope Barretto; and sister-in-law, Lillian Takiguchi.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2012, at Lihu‘e Christian Church with visitation from 10:00 a.m. and services celebrated at 11:00 a.m.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Takiguchi family with arrangements.
