Kaua‘i High Schools girls made the strongest showing at the Island Movers Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Track and Field Championships at Kea‘au High School on the Big Island, which ended Saturday.
The Red Raider girls 4×100-meter relay team, which at one point in the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation track and field season secured a top spot in the state, finished the two-day meet in second on a 49.95 run, besting its preliminary run of 50.39, but not getting past the Punahou squad, which copped first place in the event on a 49.27 run.
Chelsie Domingo, Kawehi Louis-Diamond, Reanna Javinar and Jordan Ganam made up the state team for Kaua‘i, Domingo, Louis-Diamond and Javinar going on to secure individualist honors at the state meet.
Louis-Diamond, who worked the girls 100-meter hurdles throughout the KIF season, finished fourth in the event, stopping the clock at 15.84, besting her preliminary run of 15.92.
Kayla Mitchell of Leilehua High School on O‘ahu topped the event on a record-setting 14.62 run, topping the state record set in 2010 by Kahuku High School’s Zhane Santiago of 14.71.
Domingo finished seventh in the girls 100-meter dash, crossing the line on a 13.08 run, a tad off her 12.7 preliminary showing. Raion Black of the Christian Academy topped the event on a 12.48 run.
Javinar rounded out the Kaua‘i girls’ showing, placing 8th in the girls triple jump event on a leap of 34-09.75. Emalia Galdeira of Konawaena High School set the pace in the event on a leap of 37-02.25.
The Red Raiders’ final medal came in the boys 3000-meter run when Joshua Herr crossed the line 8th on a run of 9:25.62, his best run coming in the preliminaries when he stopped the clock at 9:25.2, bettering the mark he set in the KIF Championships when he crossed first at 9:55.89.
Nicola Perez Garre of Maui High School set the pace in the distance run, crossing first at 9:14.79.
Cameron Twiggs of Waimea rounded out the top leader finishes for Garden Isle athletes when he finished 7th in the boys 200-meter dash on a 23.41 scamper over his 23.0 preliminary run.
Keelan Ewaliko of Baldwin High School set the pace for the event on a 22.49 run.
