LIHU‘E — There are still slots available for photo submissions for an ocean safety calendar being produced by the Kaua‘i Lifeguard Association’s 2nd Wave Ocean Safety Campaign.
The deadline to submit high-resolution photos of waves, beaches or sea life is June 27.
The 15-month calendar will feature Kaua‘i’s beaches, waves and lifeguards and offer ocean safety tips as well as publicize programs and events that benefit the community.
The calendar will be sold at a variety of events and at Times and Big Save markets through the summer. The calendar will also be for sale at the KLA 2nd Wave Celebration set for Oct. 7 at Kilohana.
The cost for each calendar, which will cover October 2012 to December 2013, will be $10.
Winning photographers will receive photo credit in the calendar as well as a pair of tickets to the Kilohana concert featuring Willie K., Kalapana, Henry Kapono, John Cruz and Andy Bumata.
The two key sponsors for the ocean safety calendar are King Auto Center and Hawai‘i Care and Cleaning. Additional support comes from Verizon Wireless, Captain Andy and Go! Mokulele.
The calendars are being composed by Ron Kosen of Photo Spectrum, who is donating his time and energy.
Kosen can be reached at 245-7667 at his business location on Umi Street in Lihu‘e during regular business hours.
The 2nd Wave Ocean Safety Campaign has a grass-roots publicity campaign this year to support a variety of programs that are already in place. For more information about the KLA 2nd Wave, go to Kauailifeguards.org.
