KAPA‘A — Lance Miyashiro did not have a three-pointer, but finished with 17 points to lead the Kaua‘i Ballers to a 70-56 showing over Westside Pride Thursday night at the Bernice Hundley Gym in Kapa‘a.
John Michael Sagucio, leading Westside Pride with 17 points, finished with five buckets and a pair from outside the three-point arc in the effort during the first of two games played in the Men’s 18 and Over basketball league.
Westside Pride took the offensive early, finishing with a 19-12 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Kaua‘i Ballers came back on an 18-6 second quarter run and never looked back.
Chester Dikilato fired off a trey and finished with 13 points on five buckets and the trey to follow Miyashiro’s performance.
Gaylard Matias also launched a pair of treys in the final period to link with his three buckets for 14 points for Westside Pride. Reynante Villanueva ended with a dozen points, including a three-ball to round out the scoring leaders.
Mike Lindsey finished with 12 points to lead Manny’s Sports to a 51-46 edge over Tropang-L in the nightcap, Manny’s Sports building an early lead and holding on for the remainder of the contest.
Following Lindsey’s lead, Manny Pescador ended with 10 points and Clifton Callejo finished with eight points in the win.
J.R. Punzalan topped the Tropang-L effort on 15 points followed by Allan Pablo at 11 points and Jay Serapio at 10 points.
The Men’s 18 and Over basketball league closes its regular schedule with three games at the Bernice Hundley Gym Tuesday before moving into the playoffs and finals.
Westside Pride meets Manny’s Sports in a 6 p.m. tipoff followed by G.E.K. taking on Hanakila at 7 p.m. and the Ramblas coming up on the SupaStars in the nightcap at 8 p.m.
Playoffs will start June 15 at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center and the finals will play out on June 22, also at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
