June Achi
June Kimura Achi of Niumalu, Kaua‘i, died at Oceanside Hawai‘i Assisted Living on April 3, 2012 at the age of 82.
June was a graduate of Kapa‘a High School and attended the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa, where she majored in speech.
June was a loving wife, mother, proud grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt to countless nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered for her influential role in the Niumalu-Nawiliwili Tenants Association and the Kaua‘i Canoe and Racing Association with her late husband, Stanford H. Achi. Throughout her life, June also held several substitute teaching positions. She thoroughly enjoyed her students and will be remembered as a loving and patient teacher. June was also especially proud of her involvement with the Hawaiian nonprofit organization, Alu-Like Inc.
June was preceded in death by her late husband, Stanford H. Achi; her parents, Toramatsu and Shizuko Kimura; sister, Fusae (Kenneth)Takayae; brothers, Nobu (Kiyoko) Asano, James (Kiyoko) Kimura, and Harvey(Miyoko) Kimura.
She is survived by sisters Amy (Edward) Gokan of Kaua‘i, Dorothy (Francis) Ching of O‘ahu, and Rose (Thomas) Yasuhara of Maryland. She is also survived by her daughter, Karen L. Graham of Kaua‘i, grandchildren Stanford H. Achi, 11, of North Carolina and Mari E.K. Graham of Kentucky. She also leaves behind beloved great-grandchildren Kailani, Wailani, Aolani, and Kanolani, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A private memorial service was held on May 3, 2012 at St. Michael and All Angels Church. Please send any gifts in her memory to St. Michael and All Angels Church in Lihu‘e.
Francis Pahia
Francis Pahia passed away at the age of 85 on May 5, 2012, peacefully at home. He was born on March 16, 1927, in Honolulu. He retired from the United States Air Force and The Operating Engineers. He also worked for Hwaiian Telephone, Tom Okada Trucking Company, the State Tile Company, Peter Kiewit & Co., Morrison & Knudsen and Hawaiian Dredging Company.
He was preceded in death by daughter, Darlene Kaanoi; son, James Daniel Pahia; and his twin brother, Frank Pahia.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie Abigail Kaui Ornellas Pahia; daughters, Patricia Kanohokula, Laura Limo (Ernie), Linda Canincia (Robert), Charlene Omura (Letty), and Karen Pahia; sons, James Gary Francis Pahia; brother, John of Las Vegas; sister, Rose Gleason of Mililani; 26 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; step-children, Henry (Rowena) Ornellas, Katherine (Samuel) Huddy Sr., Patsy (Francis) Hapenney, Daniel Kama; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., and services will be 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on June 13 at Mililani Makai Chapel. Burial to follow at Punchbowl Cemetery. Casual Attire, flowers welcome.
Rudolfo Gandeza
Rudolfo “Rudy” Gandeza died May 19, 2012, at St. Francis Hospice in ‘Ewa at the age of 67. He was born on Februray 11, 1945, in the Philippines and was raised on Kaua‘i. He was the supervisor for McDonald’s Hawai‘i.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richardo Gandeza and Tracilia Soriano, and his sister Sylvia Camat.
He is survived by his wife Jackie of O‘ahu, son Lance of O‘ahu, daughter Lareina of O‘ahu, stepmother Esther Gandeza of Hanama‘ulu, brothers, Nicasio (Lorna) Asuncion of San Francisco, John (Callie) Gandeza of Lihu‘e, Jame Gandeza of California, Joseph (Shelly) Gandeza of Lawa‘i, Jacob (Noreen) Gandeza of Hanama‘ulu, sisters Medina (Andy) Pawley of New Zealand, Florence Tavares of Lihu‘e, grandson Pono Gandeza of O‘ahu and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services are being held.
Henry Parra
Henry Enrique Parra of Princeville died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on May 25, 2012, at the age of 85. He was born in Venezuela on August 18, 1926, and retired as a rancher.
He is survived by his son, Cal Parra; daughters Egle Parra, Sonia Parra; sisters Libia Markus, Eli Urdaneta, Hilda Henderson; brothers Engelberto Parra, Nestor Parra; three grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services will be held.

George Fernandes
George B. Fernandes of Wailua Houselots died on May 27, 2012, at the age of 93. He was born in Kapaia, Kaua‘i, Hawai‘i on August 16, 1919, and retired from the State of Hawai‘i as a microbiologist for the Department of Health and also was a rancher and farmer. He was very involved in various organizations throughout Kaua‘i and the state; he was also a disabled WWII Veteran.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Theresa R. Fernandes; son, Paul Fernandes; father, John B. Fernandes, mother Jesses Fernandes, brothers, William (Billy) Fernandes and John B. Fernandes Jr.
He is survived by his sons, George L. (Marcia) Fernandes of Las Vegas, Michael (Alison) Fernandes of Wailua Houselots, David (Amy) Fernandes of Waipouli; daughter JoAnn Yamaguchi of Waipouli; grandchildren Shawn (Melanie) Fernandes, Danielle Fernandes, Levi Fernandes, Jocelyn (Chad) Burch, Leland Fernandes, Shendon Yamaguchi, Chelyn Yamaguchi; great-grandchildren Zoe Fernandes, Kaleb Fernandes, Sadie Burch and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, June 8, 2012, at St. Catherine Church in Kapa‘a with viewing from 8:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.

Reid Tanihiro
Reid Ken Tanihiro of Wailua Homesteads died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on May 27, 2012, at the age of 31. He was born in Lihu‘e on June 9, 1980. His passion was working with animals at Kaua‘i Humane Society and he was employed by Transportation Security Administration (TSA) at Lihue airport.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ronny Tanihiro Sr.
He is survived by his mother, Emi Tanihiro; brothers Ronny Tanihiro Jr. and Ryden Tanihiro; two nieces, Veronyka and Kalyssa Tanihiro; numerous aunties, uncles, cousins, friends and his beloved dog Tiny.
A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, June 10, 2012, at Kapa‘a Missionary Church with visitation from 2 p.m. and services celebrated at 3 p.m. A graveside committal and inurnment will be held at Kauai Memorial Gardens On Monday, June 11, 2012 at 10:30 a.m.

Bernard Kamala Sr.
Bernard Oliwa “Jawa” Kamala Sr. of Kaua‘i Care in Waimea died on May 21, 2012 at 4:42pm at the age of 66. Born on Pu‘uwai, Ni‘ihau, on September 20, 1945, he was a well known entertainer with Kaua‘i Boys and the Ka‘apana brothers, Led and Ned.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Oliwa Kamala & Lili Ka‘aumoana; and brothers and siters Kuhina Ka‘aumoana, Evaline Kanahele, Lucy Garma, and Etena Simao.
He is survived by sons and daughters Shane Kanehailua of O‘ahu, Nicole Kanehailua of O‘ahu, Bo (Adele) Kamala of Kekaha, Milton Kamala of Kentucky, Lauri Day of California, Jae Mersberg of Texas, Anna Kamala of Hanamaulu, Kanoe Kamala of Washington, and Leilani Kamala of Washington; 17 grandchildren; a brother, Keoki Kamala of Pakala and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be held on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at the Salt Pond Big Pavillion.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 a.m. Service to follow.
The family suggests casual attire and flowers are welcome.
