Andrew Higa
Andrew Ken Higa, 59, of Kapa‘a, Kaua‘i, died on May 28, 2012 in Honolulu. He was born in Honolulu. He was a maintenance worker at Kaua‘i Marriott Hotel.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Blume Higa; daughter, Karalee Higa; mother, Yae Higa and brothers, Willian (Sueko) Frederick and Howard Higa.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 16, at the Kapa‘a Missionary Church. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Service to begin at 11 a.m. The family suggests casual attire and no flowers.
Arrangements are by Ultimate Cremation Services of Hawaii.
Charlotte Thompson
Charlotte J. Thompson of Kilauea died on June 4, 2012, after a brief illness. She was born on March 22, 1916, in New Castle, Pa. Charlotte lived a long life, maintained her independence and wonderful sense of humor. Charlotte’s love and dedication to her family was the source of her strength and happiness.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Dick W. Thompson; two sons, Richard Scott and James Thompson; and sister, Sarah Eleanor McGinnis.
She is survived by two daughters, Margaret Ann Thompson and Suzanne Thompson Pond of Kilauea; brothers Robert Confer of Colonia, N.J., and William Confer of Medina, Ohio; granddaughters, Alexandra and Kieren Pond; and various nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date at her home in Kilauea.

Kei Yamane
Kei Yamane of Anaheim, Calif., and Waimea, Kaua‘i, died on June 6, 2012, at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 74. He was born on May 25, 1938, in Waimea, Kaua‘i. He was an electrical engineer with Boeing Corp.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Yamane; one son, Mark (Victoria) R. Yamane of Virginia; one daughter, Stacie K. Yamane of California; one grandchild; a brother, Raymond Yamane of California; two sisters, Mitzi Ueda of California and Nancy Honda of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday at the Waimea United Church. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Service to begin at 10:30 a.m.
The family suggests casual attire and no flowers.

Gregory Bakiano
Gregory Bakiano of Hanama‘ulu died peacefully on June 9, 2012, at Stafford Health Center in Washington at the age of 89. Born on Nov. 28, 1922 in Koloa, Kaua‘i, he was a 25-year veteran of the Kaua‘i Police Department and was very active at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and various community service organizations.
He was preceded in death by his wife Guilherma “Gayle” Bakiano and brother Robert Bakiano. He is survived by son Baron and daughter Regina (John) Becker, all of Washington; sisters, Maxine Alfiche of Michigan and Elutaria “Daing” Saulibio of Hanama‘ulu; five grandchildren, Sarah, Teresa, Daniel, Jacob and Elisa; great-grandson Octavian; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church with visitation from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.
Frank De Costa
Frank F. De Costa of Kekaha, Kaua‘i, passed away on June 10, 2012, at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital.
He was 85 years old. He was a service man for the sugar plantation and was a member of the ILWU.
He was survived by his wife, Dolores “Dolly” P. De Costa; sons, Frank F. De Costa Jr. and Stan C. De Costa; daughters, Julie (Calvin) Kajiwara and Vanessa (Michael) Woodmansee-O’Laughlin; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit the family on Saturday at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Kekaha.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. and Mass to be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Kekaha Public Cemetery

Tulpe Puulei
Tulpe Puulei of Wainiha died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on June 1, 2012, at the age of 56. She was born in Kosrae, Micronesia, on May 26, 1955, and was a housekeeper.
She is survived by her children, Agenhart “TinTin” (Sarah Perry) Puulei of Wainiha, Randy Puulei of Wainiha, Robert Puulei of O‘ahu, Duke (Alice) Puulei of Wainiha; daughters, Mintoi of Washington, Bonnie (Po) Puulei-I’li of O‘ahu, Nance Mae (Moku) Puulei Chandler of Wainiha, Trudy Puulei of Alaska, Jojo Puulei Prem of Po‘ipu; sisters in Micronesia; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday at Haena Beach Park beginning at noon.
Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Puulei family with arrangements.
Alfred Silva
Alfred “Uncle Freddy” Silva of Kapahi died on June 2, 2012, at the age of 91. He was born on Feb. 12, 1921, in Kealia, Kaua‘i. He worked for American Cannery, was a rancher and owner of Kapahi Slaughter House. He loved spending his days working on his tractors and being outside on his land.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marvalee Silva; parents Frank and Isabella Silva; brothers, Manuel De Silva and Frank Silva; and sisters, Mary Rocha, Tina Garcia, Georgina Carvalho, Bella Garcia, Josephine Chansky and Emily Rapozo.
He is survived by his son, John Dereck (Raquel) Silva, and one grandson; Dereck John Silva of Kapahi; sister, Virginia Rosa of Kapa‘a; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday at the Garden Island Mortuary, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Services will be at 10:30 a.m.
