WAILUA — Daezsa Tomas fired an even-par 72 to card the best round Saturday at the finals of the Chica Ishii Stroke Play Golf Tournament hosted by the Kaua‘i Junior Golf Association at Wailua Golf Course.
Tomas, a strong Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation contender for the girls, opened with a three-under par last Saturday, stumbling at 76 last Sunday before recovering for her even-par 72 in the final round for a 54-hole total of 217 and the title in the girls 15-18 division.
Keilyn Ing followed, three strokes off the pace at 75 to finish with a 236 (84-77-75) with Na‘ea Oda ending six strokes off the pace at 78 to finish at 240 (86-76-78) to round out the division.
Bryden Salvador carded the best round for the boys 15-18 flight, finishing at 77 for a 54-hole total of 227 (76-74-77) to top the division over KC Loo, who finished the final round just a stroke off the pace at 78 for a three-day total 244 (82-84-78).
Jamie Amimoto, coming off a nice season with Kaua‘i High School, carded a 79 in the calm, hot weather to finish at 246 (84-83-79) for third place, just five strokes ahead of Reyn Morioka, another Kaua‘i High golfer, who carded an 83 en route to a 54-hole total of 251 (84-84-83).
Kai Adachi carded a final-round 85 (101-78-85-264), Tyler Barton finished at 103 (97-89-103-289) and Kawika Wellington (103-90-100-293) rounded out the division.
Trevor Kua, whose older brother TJ was recently featured with the University of Hawai‘i golf program, was the sole golfer in the boys 13-14 field, the second largest of the tourney, to card in the 70s, finishing at 77, Saturday for a 54-hole total 237 (82-78-77).
Rilen Loo ended tied with Logan Gibson, both golfers shooting an 89 on the final round, but Loo got second place with a 54-hole total 268 (86-93-89) and Gibson ending in fourth at 272 (91-92-89). Keith Jose ended with a 90 and settled for third place at 270 (89-91-90) with Nathaniel Dama rounding out the class at 335 (106-120-109).
Hi‘ilani Alana’s dad was happy with her performance at the crossing of the final round, the soon-to-be ninth grader at Kaua‘i High finished the tournament with her best round 87 for a 54-hole total 276 (92-97-87) to top the girls 13-14 division.
She was followed by Samantha Nichols at 335 (105-115-115).
Reece Valencia topped the Boys 11-12 division on a 290 (96-97-97) and Salisa Pegeder took the Girls 11-12 with a 314 (111-98-105).
Christian Ganir finished with the best round for the boys 10 and under division, carding a 90 toward his 54-hole total 275 (95-90-90) to take the division.
James Pratt ended with a 312 (107-98-107) for second place in the division followed by Mason Gibson (100-112-106-318) and Niki Upson (107-108-110-325).
