KOLOA – Koloa Road was closed for roughly seven hours Friday morning following a single-car traffic collision that occurred at about 2 a.m. Friday, according to a county news release.
Richard Hartje, 24, of Kalaheo, was headed west on Koloa Road when his Ford SUV struck a utility pole near 4391 Koloa Rd., severing the pole in two places. The vehicle continued over an embankment and landed in a pasture.
No one was injured in the incident.
Police closed a mile and a half stretch on Koloa Road, near Mana Hema Place, while a utility crew worked to replace the downed pole.
The eastbound lane of Koloa Road was open to alternating traffic flow just before 8 a.m. Both lanes were reopened at 8:45 a.m.
Hartje was later arrested for Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of an Intoxicant (OVUII). He remains in police cellblock at this time.
