HANAPEPE — Aaron Renaud had three hits, including a homerun to dead center field to lead the Lihu’e All-Stars past the West Kaua‘i All-Stars 6-3 in Game 1 of the Bronco Playoffs Tuesday afternoon at Kato Field in Hanapepe.
Lihu‘e and West Kaua‘i both amassed 11 hits in the game, but Lihu‘e pulled away in the sixth inning. Boogie Yam and Jance Medeiros both singled with two-outs in the top of the sixth and Renaud drove them in with a sharp single to right field and advanced to second on an error. The two runs scored broke a 3-3 tie and gave Lihu‘e a 5-3 lead.
Lihu‘e tacked on a sixth and final run in the seventh inning when Christian Manera scored on a Keanu Camalliri double.
Kobe Viloria-Rivera picked up the win in relief of Yam and Renaud pitched a one-two-three seventh inning to notch the save.
Charles Lopez pitched a complete game for West Kaua‘i, picking up seven strikeouts.
Lihu‘e began the game in front when Manera scored on a Skyler Sadora single to center field, but West Kaua‘i came back to tie the game in the fourth inning when Christopher Ishikawa scored on a fielder’s choice.
Lihu‘e picked up two more runs in the fifth inning with Renaud’s homerun and a Manera RBI single. West Kaua‘i once again bounced back in the bottom of the inning with two runs on a Lacin Montemayor double to tie the game at 3-3.
With the win, Team Lihu‘e took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. Game 2 of the series will be held today in Lihu‘e at 4 p.m.
