LIHU‘E — In Game 1 of the Bronco playoffs, the Lihu‘e All-Stars and West Kaua‘i All-Stars battled evenly until late in the game when Lihu‘e pulled away.
In Game 2, Team Lihu‘e wanted nothing to do with a close race.
The Lihu‘e All-Stars racked up 12 runs and Kobe Viloria-Rivera pitched a complete game as Lihu‘e beat West Kaua‘i 12-0 to advance to the Bronco state playoffs.
Lihu‘e wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, and just like Game 1 the catalyst was the bat of Aaron Renaud.
The Lihu‘e slugger launched a pitch over the outfield wall for a two-run homer on the first pitch he saw in the first inning to give Lihu‘e a 2-0 lead. A third run was added in the inning when Christian Manera slashed an RBI double.
Lihu‘e added another two runs in the second inning — with Skyler Dadora and Boogie Yam crossing the plate on a Renaud double — before putting the game away in the third inning with seven runs and six hits to extend the lead to 12.
With the 12 run cushion, Viloria-Rivera cruised through the fifth inning before the 10-run mercy rule was called into effect.
For West Kaua‘i, Pookel Bartels, Christopher Ishikawa and Keaka Wisneski recorded hits.
Team Lihu‘e will travel to O‘ahu to play in the Bronco State Tournament beginning June 29.
