HONOLULU — Three high school seniors from Kaua‘i received a prestigious scholarship in early May.
Kapa’a High School senior Nicole A. Isoda was named by the Mamoru and Aiko Takitani Foundation as one of its 10 district scholarship winners. She received a $3,000 scholarship.
Two seniors, Travis Navarro of Kaua‘i High School and Annalissa Hartsell of Waimea High School, each received $1,000 scholarships.
The students were among 61 recipients — one from each of the qualifying public and independent schools in the state — who received scholarships based on academic achievement, community service and financial need. In total, the Foundation awarded $97,000 in scholarships this year.
The daughter of Kent and Noelani Isoda, Isoda is a member of the National Honor Society, Interact, Skills USA, the Japanese Club, Marching Band and Junior-Varsity volleyball and soccer. She has been on the honor roll for all of her high school years.
Navarro is the son of Charlene Navarro and Hartsell is the daughter Bill and Alicia Hartsell.
Mamoru and Aiko Takitani founded Hawaiian Host, Inc., manufacturer of Hawaiian Host chocolates, and established the Mamoru and Aiko Takitani Foundation. Since 1993, the foundation has annually presented scholarships to an outstanding student from every qualifying high school in the state and has awarded over $1.7 million in scholarships.
