Four points was the margin of victory for the Team Central 10 and younger basketball team Sunday on O‘ahu.
Coached by Steven Pascua and Guy Higa, the aspiring basketball players edged out HC4 Team of O‘ahu 34-30 for the 10 and younger championship during the 2012 National Junior Basketball Hawai‘i Classic Tournament, which started play Wednesday and continued through the Sunday title matches.
The 19th Annual Hawai‘i Classic featured both boys and girls teams with the girls teams including 12 and younger, 14 and younger and 17 and younger.
Boys teams started with the 10 and younger, or students in the fourth grade, 12 and younger, 14 and younger and 17 and younger.
Team members include Keylan Calapatia, Jaron Ruiz Acantilado, Braden Simao, Kurtis Pascua, Gavin Toyofuku, Jay Calapatia, Hunter Yoshioka, Kaimani Tecson, Kaia Miguel and Kean Uehara.
The National Junior Basketball is a nonprofit organization founded by Dennis Murphy, Jr. in 1984 and is based on a vision he had of a youth basketball league based on sportsmanship and player development, states the NJB website.
From that vision, NJB has grown into a national youth league with more than 25,000 participants in six states offering three divisions for boys and girls in the first through 12 grades.
