Dionicio Purisima
Dionicio Alfredo “Pedong” Purisima of Kalaheo, Kaua‘i, passed away on June 21, 2012, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 82. He was born on Oct. 9, 1929, in Cabugao, Ilocos Sur, Philippines. He retired as an irrigator for McBryde Sugar Plantation.
He was preceeded in death by his daughter, Glynda Purisima; parents, Anatalio and Melchora Purisima; and brother, David Purisima.
He is survived by his wife, Gregoria “Goyang” Purisima; sons, Bernard (Christie) Purisima of Lihu‘e, Arnel (Shana Oyama) Purisima of ‘Ele‘ele; daughter, Arlene (Nick Arruda) Purisima of Lihu‘e; sisters, Eugenia Peralta, Philippines, Lourdes Mirasol, Philippines, Nina Sapilo, Philippines; brother, Thomas Purisima, Philippines; granchildren, Kevin, Janice, Rhylen, Kimberly, Jaysen, Kaitlyn, Connor, Jaqlyn, Kari and Tony; brother-in-laws Sotero (Hermie) Solatre of Lihu‘e and Tomas (Tessie) Solatre of Kalaheo; sister-in-law, Estrella Braceros of Lihu‘e; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, July 13, at the Purisima residence, 2067 Peleleu St., Kalaheo at 6 p.m. and again on Saturday, July 14, at Holy Cross Church. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. with Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m.
Burial to follow at St. Raphael Catholic Cemetary, Koloa. Celebration of his life luncheon will follow at the Purisima residence. Family suggests casual attire.

Benjamin Alamani
Benjamin “Ben” Alamani, 63, of Salem, Ore., passed away on March 20, 2012, at Salem Hospital. He was born in Waimea and resided in Anahola until 1999. He was a retired craftsman.
He is survived by his wife Linda S. Alamani, daughters, Becky (Henry Jr.) Kanoho and Cheri (Rawlin Kanoho) Alamani; grandchildren, Hana Kanoho, Henry Kanoho III, Raelyn Kanoho, Ben Kanoho, Darcie Kanoho, Anu Kanoho, Ikaika Kanoho and David Kanoho; sister, Jane Gray; and numerous other family members.
A celebration of his life will be held on July 21 at St. Catherine Church with visitation from 9 a.m. and services at 10:30 a.m.

Damaso Perlas
Damaso “Daso” Perlas of Puhi, Kaua‘i, passed away peacefully at his home on July 7, 2012, at the age of 77. He was born Dec. 11, 1934, in Kekaha, raised in Niumalu, and retired as a bellman at the Kaua‘i Marriott Hotel.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Aurellia “Nina” Perlas; parents, Feliciano and Luisa Perlas; and sister, Augustina “Tina” Tomacder.
He is survived by two daughters, Alicia (Tyrus) Miyashiro of Puhi and Michelle Perlas of Hanama‘ulu; son, Michael Perlas of Puhi; half-brother, Willie (Rosaline) Ng; half-sister, Dorothy Zane of Honolulu; three grandchildren, Jordan Perlas, Kaytlyn Perlas, and Tyrus “Boolah” Miyashiro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Church with viewing from 8 to 9:45 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens. Family suggests casual attire.

Camela Sasan
Camela Sabala Sasan of Puhi, Kaua‘i, died at home on July 4, 2012, at the age of 79. She was born in Waimea on March 21, 1933, and retired as a nurse at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred G. Sasan; brothers, Julian Sabala and Richard Sabala; and sisters, Edna Takabayashi and Rosita Santiago.
She is survived by her son Frederick (Lori) Sasan; daughter Melanie (John) Borales; sisters, Juanita Umipeg and Eleanora Manaday; brother, Sunday (Paceng) Sabala; grandchildren, Malia (Colin) Ceda, Joshua McKenzie Rapanot, Iris (Joseph) Rapanot, Scot Sasan, Jonathan Borales and Lorinda Sasan; great-grandchildren, Andrew Rapanot, Derek Terzi, Zipporah Ceda, Ananiah Ceda, Josaiah Ceda and Isaiah Ceda; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on July 21 at Lihu‘e Missionary Church on Rice Street with visitation from 9 a.m. and services celebrated at 10 a.m. Inurnment and committal services will be held on July 23 at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens at 10 a.m.

Elizabeth Kaohelaulii
Elizabeth A. Taniguchi Kaohelaulii of Makaweli, Kaua‘i, passed away on July 7, 2012, at the age of 70. She was born on April 20, 1942, in Waimea. She was a retired bus driver for the County of Kaua‘i.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Ellen Taniguchi.
She is survived by her sons, Rusty Kaohelaulii, Dexter (Angela) Kaohelaulii, Casey (Katie) Kaohelaulii and Palenapa (Rileene) Kaohelaulii Jr.; daughters, Valerie (Louis) Matias and Sherry (Jason) Matias; hanai son, Opu‘ulani (Elea) Kahokuloa; brothers, Kazue (Raelae) Taneguchi, Feliciano (Lynn) Vea, Sonny Vea and Hanohano Vea; sisters, Anita (Delbert) Lewis and Maryanne (Joe) Kanahele; hanai brothers, Carl (Maureen) Dusenberry and Douglas (Linda) Dusenberry; hanai sister, Elsie Mae Nishi; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on July 18 at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary, Koloa. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. with service at 4 p.m. Cremation to follow.

Epefania Galingan
Epefania Galingan of Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i, died on June 22, 2012, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 87. She was born to Pedro Ballesteros and Maria Manzano Ballesteros on Jan. 25, 1925, in Narvacan Ilocos Sur, Philippines. She was a housekeeper with Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emilio Galingan; son, Danny Galingan; brother, Dominador Ballesteros; and a sister, Leonida Pascua.
She is survived by her two daughters, Wilma (Trinidad) Raval of Lihu‘e, and Lolita (Romie) Mabini of Lihu‘e; four brothers, Eleuterio (Leonida) Ballesteros of Honolulu, Samuel (Naty) Ballesteros of Honolulu, Arsenio (Esther) Ballesteros of Honolulu, and Rodolfo Ballesteros of the Philippines; three sisters, Magdalena Pascua of Honolulu, Priscilla Ballesteros and Florida Leones, both of the Philippines; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 14, at Immaculate Conception Church in Lihu‘e.
Visitation will be from 8:30 am to 9:30 a.m. Mass will begin at 10 a.m., and burial to follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.
Family suggests casual attire and flowers are open.
