Jaya Bonderov
Jaya Bonderov of Wainiha, Kaua‘i, passed away June 25, 2012, in Lumahai Valley, Kaua‘i, at the age of 40. He was born Sept. 19, 1971, in Inverness, Calif., and moved to Kaua‘i with his family the next year. He grew up in Hanalei, then moved back to San Francisco to pursue his gifted athletic talent as a professional skateboarder. In his world travels as a skater he also became a renowned photographer, well-known in the extreme sports world. He had returned home to Kaua‘i a few years ago to spend time with his family and friends.
Jaya was preceded in death by his father, Peter Bonderov, step-brother Ken Bryan, nephew Payton Bryan-Chung and grandparents on both sides.
He is survived by his mother Chris Bryan; step-dad Vinny Bryan; sisters Chandra Levesque and Sophia (Jonah Neumann) Levesque; step-siblings Paul (Crystalyn) Bryan and Maile Bryan; uncle Paul Porter; nieces Isabella, Kamalee and Mahealani; nephews Kamalei and Lucas; and hanai aunties Teresa Goldberg and Susan Nash, all from Kaua‘i; aunt Martha Sullivan and cousin Ian Sullivan; and many dear friends.
A celebration of Jaya’s life will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at 5150 Kahiliholo Rd., Kalihiwai Ridge, Kilauea, Kaua‘i. Look for signs 1.3 miles up the ridge.
Memorial service and remembrances will be followed by a potluck gathering. Island style attire suggested.
Donations can be made to a non-profit foundation set up in his honor at Kaua‘i Community Federal Credit Union, Kapa‘a, under the Jaya Bonderov Fund. Jaya will be forever missed by all the family and friends he touched throughout his life.
