Szigeti named president, CEO of HLTA
HONOLULU — The Hawai‘i Lodging and Tourism Association’s board of directors has announced that George D. Szigeti has been named president and CEO of the organization.
Szigeti will replace Mufi Hannemann, who has held the post since January 2011.
Szigeti has been president and CEO of Better Brands Ltd. since 1997. Better Brands, a subsidiary of Young Market Company, is one of the nation’s largest wholesalers and distributors of beer, wine and distilled spirits.
In addition to serving on the HLTA board, Szigeti was a board member and past president of the Hawai‘i Food Industry Association, board member of the Hawai‘i Restaurant Association, president of the Hawai‘i Liquor Wholesalers Association, and board member of the Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl and several charitable organizations.
HLTA is a non-profit, statewide trade organization of lodging properties, lodging owners and management firms, condominiums, suppliers, and related firms and individuals.
The HLTA includes 156 lodging properties representing 48,000 rooms and more than 400 members in other membership categories.
Among joins Polynesian Adventure
HONOLULU — Frank Among has joined Polynesian Adventure Tours/Gray Line Hawai‘i as vice president of sales and marketing.
Polynesian Adventure Tours is a subsidiary of Norwegian Cruise Line/NCL Corporation Ltd., which specializes in bus charters, transfers and tours of the Hawaiian islands.
Among assumes responsibility for the sales team and is charged with developing and executing the company’s aggressive business growth strategy.
Among brings more than 25 years of travel industry sales, marketing and executive-level management experience in airline, wholesaler and online companies.
Prior to accepting his new post, Among served as the Hawai‘i market manager for the online travel company Bookit.com, which made significant gains in market share and profitability under his two-plus years of leadership. Previously he was director of e-commerce for Bogar, Inc., launching retail consumer websites in conjunction with Travelport/Galileo, Amadeus and Sabre.
Among is a graduate of the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa’s School of Travel Industry Management and holds a Certificate of Indo-Pacific Languages in Hawaiian.
