Peggy Nishimitsu
Peggy Fukiko Nishimitsu of Kapa‘a, Kaua‘i, passed away on June 22, 2012, at her residence at the age of 87. She was born in Kunia on Sept. 27, 1924. She was a retired registered nurse for Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas K. Nishimitsu, and son, Peter “Pohaku” Nishimitsu.
She is survived by daughters, Lorna (Keith Aoki) Nishimitsu of Kapa‘a and Holly (Gerald Alfiler) Nishimitsu of Kapa‘a; sister, Sally Yamanaka of O‘ahu; brothers, Jerry Ishimoto of O‘ahu and Terry Ishimoto of O‘ahu; numerous nieces and nephews; and two grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 28, at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Kapa‘a. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. with service at 10 a.m. The family suggests that flowers be omitted.
Arrangements are by Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary, Koloa.
Vicenta Remata
Vicenta Omakanim Remata of Makaweli, Kaua‘i, passed away on June 25, 2012, at the age of 103. She was born on Sept. 11, 1908, in Bugu, Cebu, Philippines. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Crisanto Remata; mother, Matiya Luok; brothers, Domingo Omakanim and Joseph Omakanim; sister, Brihida Villamor; and daughter-in-law, Donna Remata.
She is survived by her sons, David (Mercy) Remata of Makaweli, Edward (Berna) Remata of Makaweli, Alfredo (Flora) Remata of Lihu‘e, Richard Remata of Honolulu, Stanley (Norma) Remata of Honolulu, Wifred Remata of California, Lawrence Remata of California and Patrick Remata of California; daughters, Mildred (Bernardo) Olores of Kekaha and Elizabeth (Elepedio) Aquino of Lihu‘e, Sister Florence Remata, Order of Saint Francis, Lihu‘e, and Vivian (Alvis) Nonaka of California; 28 grandchildren; 54 great grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Dolores Omakanim of Waimea.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, July 7, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Kekaha. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. with Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery, Hanapepe.

Robert Jones
Robert Howard Jones, known affectionately as BJ, died peacefully at home with his family by his side on the first day of summer, June 20, 2012, under a Hanalei moon.
He was born in Glendale, Calif., on Aug. 8, 1929, and found paradise when he moved to Kaua‘i in 1983. BJ loved his family, his friends, both two- and four-legged, and working on his farm in Kilauea.
He is survived by his family, Julie Jones and Dean Parks, and Janet, Don and Nicole Feith, his sister Barbara Witt, and his beloved caregivers, Jaana Makipaa, Kerry Lynn Fleischauer and Terrill Ruzic a.k.a. The Sister-Wives, to whom we will be forever grateful.
Services to be announced later this summer.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Jones family with arrangements.
Sally Edayan
Sally “Soling” Eufemia Ceballos Edayan of Waimea, Kaua‘i, passed away on June 17, 2012, at Garden Island Healthcare. She was born on March 20, 1926, in Waimea, Kaua‘i. She was a tax examiner for the state of Hawai‘i.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marcelino and Apolonia Ceballos; and brothers Francisco “Kikoy” Ceballos and Lorenzo “Tining” Ceballos.
She is survived by her sons, Leonard (Colleen) Edayan of Kaua‘i and Clyde Edayan of Kaua‘i; daughter Cynthia (Jack) Waters of O‘ahu; brother Clem Ceballos of Kaua‘i; sister Betty Parraga of Kaua‘i; three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary Chapel, Koloa. Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. with the service at 10 a.m. A luncheon will follow the service. The burial will be private

Robert Cortezan
Robert “Bobby” Abaya Cortezan, 79, of Honolulu, retired musician/entertainer on various cruise ships, died at home. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was born in Koloa, Kaua‘i.
He is survived by sisters, Josephine “Jo” Duvauchelle, Mabel “Aunty Jean” Pacarro and Mary Alice “Mamie” Powelson of Columbus, Ohio.
Visitation will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Koloa Union Church, 3289 Poipu Road, with services at 4 p.m. Casual attire.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity.
