On July 21, The Storybook Theatre of Hawai‘i presented the grand opening of the Spark M. Matsunaga International Children’s Garden For Peace in Hanapepe.
The grand opening was a fundraiser to support ongoing educational programs, school visitations for all ages, school tours and summer internships and enrichment programs at the Storybook Theatre.
The event kicked off at 6 p.m. as Rev. Nani Hill blessed Kevin’s Gate, the entrance of Storybook Theatre.
At 6:30 p.m., Mayor Bernard Carvalho, Jr. formally introduced Kumu Hula Doric Yaris’s Halau.
Music by slack key musicians Cindy Combs and Cyril Pahinui elegantly played from 7 to 9 p.m.
And from 9 to 10 p.m., master of ceremonies David Hamil introduced garden designer Kim Duffett and gate builder Wayne Zebzda.
