Kudos to Moki ‘Ohana, as Coach Orlando “O” Anaya likes to call them, on a great two-day Mokihana Fun Meet at the Kaua‘i High School pool.
Franklin Fontanilla (he was the sleep-in security) said it was so hot Saturday, the pool water went up 4 degrees in just a couple of hours, but thank heaven for the rain (they needed that in Kekaha!).
Among the dignitaries, Coach Spencer Shiraishi of the Maui Swim Club is the newest member of the Hawai‘i Swim Hall of Fame and Ron Iwamoto of the Pearl City Swim Club is the newest “certified” coach after years of volunteering and helping, and of course, Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. did a great job with the Hawai‘i Pono‘i and no one can top our own Nalani Brun on the national anthem (still gives you chicken skin).
A moment of silence for the passing of Harold Naumu (I remember working with him during Pop Warner football along with Stoop Shimogawa, Volio Mira, Leo Rapozo, and the Ihara ‘ohana from Kalaheo, and the food booth at the Kaua‘i County Farm Fair to help Laureen Balocan get funds so she could be a pa‘u rider).
