At last check, there was no immediate threat to any structures.
However, power was shut off to a nearby area where Department of Water storage tanks are located. As a cautionary measure, the Department of Water requested that Kekaha residents and visitors conserve water and restrict water consumption to essential uses only until power could be restored.
Kauai firefighters added Air 1 to the fire fighting effort as they assisted the Department of Land and Natural Resources in containing the blaze.
Kaua‘i Rescue 3 personnel joined Trucks 5, 6, and 7 and Engines 6 and 7 in responding to the fire near Poki‘i Ridge off Koke‘e Road, just after midnight, Friday morning.
Approximately 10 acres were scorched before crews intitially had the blaze under control at 4 a.m., according to county officials.
The State Department of Land and Natural Resources assumed Incident Commander of the blaze, but county firefighters remain on scene to assist DLNR personnel in extinguishing hot spots.
The cause of a Koke‘e brush fire is still under investigation, Friday.
