SweetPri unveils organic desserts

PUHI — Priscilla Sobrinho’s “pets” gave rise to a new business which was met eagerly by shoppers with sweet tooths Saturday.
SweetPri Desserts enjoyed her first day Saturday at the Kaua‘i Community Market at the Kaua‘i Community College campus, coordinated by the Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau.
“This is her first day and she has Brazilian pudding,” said Melissa McFerrin of the Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau. “There are a lot of people there. I think you should come to the fair and plan on eating.”
Sobrinho’s fledgling business centers around two primary offerings — pudim, a Brazilian style flan, and Lilikoi Mousse. Other items on her business card menu include Brigadeiro, or Chocolate Bonbon, and Pave, a layered dessert.
Nestled between a sign educating shoppers that “Stressed spelled backwards is ‘Dessert’ and “Happy eggs from Happy local chickens,” Priscilla’s son Taj was at peace, his attention riveted to a DVD player while mom took care of sweet tooth after sweet tooth.
“We bought these chickens as pets,” Priscilla said, referring to the “Happy local chickens.” “They weren’t supposed to be heavy layers, but I guess they’re happy and lay a lot of eggs.”
The eggs gave rise to the flan, and everything else fell into place.
Sobrinho said right now, she makes her appearances at the farmers market at The Coconut Marketplace on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. and the Kaua‘i Community Market on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
She said she also supplies truffles at the Vim n Vigor store in Lihu‘e.
“Right now, I’m working on trying to come up with a sweet condensed milk and a vegan menu,” Sobrinho said. “It’s all organic.”
