WAINIHA — A fire destroyed a Wainiha home Sunday night.
The fire was reported at 4799 Wainiha Powerhouse Rd. at approximately 7:23 p.m. The home was fully engulfed by flames but no one was inside the residence when firefighters arrived, according to a county news release.
Kaua‘i Fire Department Engine 1, Truck 1, Engine 8, Truck 8, Rescue 3 and BC 2 responded to the scene. The fire was fully extinguished at 9:55 p.m.
Scanner traffic said the owner was on scene as the fire was being extinguished. Damages to the 1,100-square-foot home and its contents are estimated to be $130,000,
according to a county release.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
No other structures were threatened but there was reportedly a live power line down across a driveway. Residents in that home were trapped inside until KIUC workers arrived at 9:45 p.m.
