LIHU‘E — Alumni Football U.S.A. announced a series of six full contact football games for the State of Hawai‘i, including two games for Kaua‘i in January 2013.
Bob Cazet of the Alumni Football U.S.A. was on Kaua‘i earlier this week, getting the word out that Alumni Football U.S.A. is looking for players for the two Kaua‘i games.
“These games are an opportunity for alumni of local high schools to play in one more, full contact football game while raising money for their old high schools,” Cazet said. “It’s a great event for the whole community.”
On Jan. 25, 2013, the Waimea High School alumni will take on the Kapa‘a High School alumni in a 7 p.m. kickoff at Hanapepe Stadium.
The following evening, Jan. 26, 2013, the alumni of Kaua‘i High School will take on the alumni of Waiakea High School on the Big Island, or the alumni of Hilo High School.
Kickoff for that game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Vidinha Stadium.
“Right now, we’re looking for alumni who are interested in playing full contact football for one game, one day at high school rules,” Cazet said. “Once we have an idea of the number of interested football players, we will schedule a team meeting to discuss practices and other logistics leading up to the game.”
Cazet said only the first 40 players for each team will get to play.
“It’s free to sign up, $100 to play,” he said. “The cost includes everything for game day. Alumni Football USA organizes and coordinates the games, rental of professional helmet, pads and equipment, game day EMTs, officials, announcers, field liability insurance and a DVD of the game and a commemorative shirt.”

Last year, Alumni Football USA Hawai‘i Games played its first football games on the Big Island where former high school players from Hawai‘i high schools were able to return and play full contact football against their former high school rivals.
Kealakehe High School, as a result of those games, raised more than $12,000.
Other games scheduled for January 2013 include Honoka‘a against Kohala on either Jan. 3 or 6, Kea‘au Alumni vs. Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy on either Jan. 3 or 6, Hilo Alumni vs. Waiakea Alumni on Jan. 4 at Wong Stadium in Hilo, plus Kealakehe Alumni vs. Konawaena Alumni on Jan. 5 at Kealakehe High School.
