Dinner is poured!

The Wine Garden is Kaua‘i’s first specialty wine store. Colette Savage, owner of The Wine Garden, opened shop in 2002. The Wine Garden is home to more than 600 different types of wine.

You wouldn’t have guessed from the cozy little space inside, but, nonetheless, The Wine Garden supplies a huge variety of the best-tasting wines on the island.

They also carry a lot of Hawai‘i made goods.

Lagone

This week’s drink of the week is a bottle of red wine Savage recommends. It’s called Lagone and is priced at $18.99.

Savage gave the whole spiel of the wine: “This particularly wine is a wine that we just started carrying. It’s an Italian wine. It’s imported by Dalla Terra. This wine is from a family-owned winery called Aia Vecchia; it’s located in Tuscany, in an area called Bolgheri.”

Savage said that Bolgheri has a special microclimate that grows varietals, such as merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc.  

“This wine is a blend of three varietals,” Savage said. “It’s primarily merlot with some cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc blended in. It’s a really well structured wine, well balanced. It would appeal to most people’s palates; it’s got some real wonderful fruit components: black cherry along with other dark fruits.”

Savage said that Lagone gets better when poured in the glass. Savage added that Lagone is an everyday affordable wine that runs for $18.99 a bottle.

“This wine was just a fabulous discovery,” Savage said. “I had tasted it at a trade show, enjoyed it then and enjoy it better when I sit at home and enjoy a glass of it.”
