KAPA‘A — A 3-year-old child nearly drowned Monday at a hotel swimming pool.
Kaua‘i County Dispatch alerted responders around 11:30 a.m. to a call about a child who was pulled from the Pono Kai Resort swimming pool in Kapa‘a. Dispatch said that people on the scene were performing CPR until responders from Kaua‘i Fire Department arrived.
According to the Kaua‘i County spokesperson Sarah Blane, the child was discovered floating facedown in the pool. By the time Kaua‘i Fire Department and medics arrived the child was out of the water and regained consciousness as a result of the CPR.
Responders remained on the scene and administered oxygen with the assistance of medics, according to Blane.
The Pono Kai Resort declined to comment on the matter.
