Shinji Miwa
Shinji Miwa passed away at his home in Wailua, Kaua‘i, on July 31, 2012, at the age of 100. Born in Lihu‘e on Feb. 6, 1912, he was a teacher at Kaua‘i High School until he retired in 1972.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mitsue Togioka Miwa.
He is survived by his daughters, Marilyn Miwa and Judith Stambaugh (Michael) Iwai; granddaughter, Lisa (Eric) Gordon of Napa, Calif.; and great grandchildren, Madison and Chase Gordon. He also is survived by his sister, Yuki (Takashi) Kitaoka, of Honolulu.
Private services were held.
Funeral arrangements were made by Garden Island Mortuary.
Harold Martin
Harold L. “Hal” Martin, of Kalaheo, Kaua‘i, died on Oct. 10, 2012, at Garden Isle Healthcare Hospice at the age of 73. Born on Sept. 29, 1939, in Peoria, Ill., he was the founder of Martin Steel Constructors, Inc.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Martin; sons, Todd Martin, of Moloka‘i, Troy Martin, of ‘Ele‘ele, and Cristopher Martin, of Kekaha; brothers, Ron (Carol) Martin, of Nevada, and Phil (Lindaanne) Martin, of Chicago; sister, Tricia (Kenneth) Gentry, of Maryland; and four grandchildren, Jeffrey Willig Martin, of Fresno, Catherine D. Martin, of O‘ahu, Tara Lehua Martin, of Kalaheo, and Hal B. Martin, of Koloa.

Alpiniano Suyom
Alpiniano Bautista Suyom of Lihu‘e died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Sept. 26, 2012, at the age of 66. He was born in Tacloban, Leyte, Philippines on June 30, 1946, and was a cook at Family Café.
He is survived by his wife, Lydia Suyom of Lihu‘e; six children, Susana Suyom, of the Philippines, Leah (Jefferson) Suyom of the Philippines, Charie (Ray) Aquias of Lihu‘e, Arden Suyom of the Philippines Marilou and Rey Suyom of the Philippines; brothers, Antonio, Amado, Boy and Eddie; sisters, Inday, Lolita and Yolly all of the Philippines; six grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at St. Catherine Church with viewing from 8 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Lihu‘e Cemetery.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Suyom family with arrangements.
David Remoaldo
David Remoaldo of ‘Oma‘o died on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at his home at the age of 88. Born on March 17, 1924, in Kilauea, he was a retired heavy equipment mechanic for Pacific Machinery and a World War II Veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Mary Remoaldo; sister, Helen Data; and son, William.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret; three daughters, Susan Remoaldo of ‘Ele‘ele, Jennifer (Tony) Reis of Lawa‘i, and Mary Remoaldo of Bellevue, Wash.; two grandchildren, Tina (Will) Duarte of Las Vegas, Nev., and David Gusman of Hanapepe; five great-grandchildren, Elias, and Chelsey Castillo and Saige, Kane and Kade Gusman; sisters, Agnes Carey of Kailua and Josephine (Robert) Silva of ‘Ele‘ele.
Friends and family may call on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012 at St. Raphael’s Church, Koloa with visitation from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. where mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m.
Burial to follow at Kaua‘i Veteran’s Cemetery in Hanapepe.
Marie Manguchei
Marie Louise Silva Manguchei of Lihu‘e died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Oct. 10, 2012, at the age of 66. She was born in Kalaheo, Kaua‘i on Dec. 12, 1945, and was a foster parent for many children on Kaua‘i.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Manguchei; parents, Antone and Madeline Silva Sr., brothers, Anthony Silva Jr. and John Silva; father-in-law, Manuel Manguchei Sr., and brother-in-law, Manuel Manguchei Jr.
She is survived by her children, Chantelle Manguchei, Mary-Ana (Kawika Rabot) Manguchei, Barbara-Jean (Manny) Linoz-Hodges; brother, Joseph Silva; sister, Aileen (Francis) Brun; seven grandchildren; and numerous hanai children, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Church with viewing from 8 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.
