Lappert’s Hawai‘i has been home to some of the most delicious ice cream, coffee and beverages for the last 29 years. It is one of those places that you must visit at least once in your lifetime. The ingredients used to produce these wonderful products are fresh, high quality and local.
When I visited the Koloa location at The Shops at Kukui‘ula on 4425 Ala Kalanikaumaka St., I knew I would be in for a treat.
I got to meet barista Sherry Jacinto, who has worked at Lappert’s for 13 years.
She has extensive training as a barista: some of her training include spending time with Specialty Coffee Association of America, receiving a barista certificate and traveling to the Seattle Coffee Fest.
Surprisingly, her favorite drink is a simple latte.
Mary Pratt, president of Lappert’s, praises Jacinto’s skills: “Sherry is great. You won’t find a better barista anywhere else.”
Pratt led me behind the counter, where all the magic happens. Behind the counter, I got to witness the inner workings of the store: from the kitchen to the equipment, and from the ordering process to the creation of beverages.
Kaua‘i Pie Mocha
Jacinto created the Kaua‘i Pie Mocha for Kaua‘i Times. It comes in three sizes: a single for $4.45, a double for $4.95 and a triple for $5.30.
The Kaua‘i Pie Mocha is an espresso blended with dark cocoa, hazelnut, coconut, steamed milk, whipped cream and topped with a drizzle of chocolate on the top.
Jacinto skillfully crafted a double Kaua‘i Pie Mocha. She made it so swiftly that it made my head spin.
I really didn’t think much of baristas until I witnessed how much effort and focus she put into making the beverage.
If you’re ever in need of something sweet with a quick pick you up, I suggest you have a yourself a try of the Kaua‘i Pie Mocha.
