WAIMEA — A blessing ceremony for Easter Seals Hawai‘i’s newly-renovated Waimea location will take place Oct. 26.
The renovation of the historic Waimea Dispensary will allow Easter Seals Hawai‘i the opportunity to provide expanded services for people with developmental disabilities throughout Kaua‘i, according to a news release.
The Waimea Dispensary served West Kaua‘i’s health care needs from 1927 until the mid-1990s, when the building became vacant and unusable. A partnership between Aupuni O Ni‘ihau, Kaua‘i Economic Development Board and Easter Seals Hawai‘i will allow the Waimea Dispensary to serve the needs of the West Kaua‘i community once again.
The renovated Waimea Dispensary will provide a gathering place for adults with disabilities to enjoy and participate in therapeutic, social, vocational and recreational programs.
“We are excited to bless this new location and bring a facility with such historical significance back to serve the community,” says President of the Easter Seals Hawai‘i Board of Directors Mason Williams in the release. “The new location will allow Easter Seals Hawai‘i the opportunity to expand programs and services for youth and adults with disabilities being served in Kaua‘i. It will also allow the addition of new programs and services to be added, based on the needs of the community.”
Renovations to the building include a large classroom, commercial kitchen, learning center, administrative offices, bathrooms, wheelchair-accessible showers, laundry facilities and two conference rooms.
The new location will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and as needed on Saturdays and Sundays. To learn more about Easter Seals Hawai‘i and the programs and services available, visit
