LIHU‘E — The Islandwide Youth Rally 2012 rivaled any other youth-organized event in numbers and in energy.
More than 500 youth turned out to sing and share the word Friday evening at Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Center.
Vill Galiza, pastor of Aloha Church in Lihu‘e, said it is important to instill a sense of hope and joy in kids at an early age.
He said this rally is an example of children taking it a step further and taking the lead.
“Kids want to find a sense of place and purpose and events like this do just that,” Galiza said.
“They want to be inspired and challenged.”
Lihu‘e churches are somewhat unique for their efforts to work together, he added.
The ministers meet for morning prayer and are always looking to help one another spread the word, he said.
While feasting on chili and rice outside, the children watched the Kendama Challenge. After an hour or so, they children began to fill the main hall.
Following hip-hop, tambourine and flag performances, the praise band followed with more than an hour of spiritually uplifting songs. The 30-plus youth choir included members from several Kaua‘i churches.
The youth choir was led by three soloists. There was also a guitarist, trumpet play, drummer, violinist and saxophone player to accompany uplifting songs that everyone seemed to know by heart.
Shannon Marocco, the pastor of Kings Assembly of God in O‘ahu, provided the keynote.
