LIHU‘E — The perennial icons of Halloween poked their heads through the threat of rain and humid conditions, Friday during the 6th Annual Wilcox Hospital Halloween Parade.
Hundreds of young superheroes, princesses, witches, pirates, were punctuated with a smattering of sushi, sushi chef, and even a Flintstone family as they were registered by a diva in preparation for the parade which took the collection of characters around the first floor of the Kaua‘i Medical Center and back to the Wilcox Hospital lobby.
During the tour, the different departments offered treats to the young revelers who stopped off for a brief look-over by the panel of judges nestled in the air conditioned comfort of the Kaua‘i Medical Center.
On past the Lihu‘e Pharmacy and down the hallway, the tour went, accompanied by parents and grandparents, the entourage being greeted by personnel in scrubs, witches’ outfit, and fruity outfits, everyone eager to pass out goodies to fill the orange Wilcox Hospital backpacks and Wilcox Health reusable shopping bags.
Following more than an hour of watching the variety of characters, Katie Gallo, Wilcox Hospital Marketing and Communications manager, released the three finalists in the Cutest and Most Original categories.
Ryden Kualii topped the Cutest category followed by Kainoa Kennedy and Taylor Agustin.
Makaijah Schmidt topped the Most Original category followed by Kellen Nitta and Jaden Gandia.
With prizes and treats in hand, the icons of Halloween quickly dissipated into the Friday afternoon, waiting until Wednesday when the spirit of Halloween will again beckon the characters to show their faces.
Wilcox Hospital has been Kaua‘i’s leading medical facility since 1938, states its website. George Norton Wilcox and Dora Isenberg were among the first to envision a community hospital with a medical staff open to all eligible physicians on Kaua‘i.
