Arbor Day celebration was a success
Over 2,000 plants were given away for free at this year’s Arbor Day event this past Saturday. All the planning and work hours by volunteers that went into making this event successful were all done just for the love of plants.
Many thanks go to all those who helped out: the plant growers, the planning committee, the educators and the event volunteers. The best part of the day were all those who turned out to pick up their trees and shrubs. An outpouring of gratitude and thanks from the community were the icing on the cake!
Thanks also go to Kukui Grove for allowing us to stage the event in the great space behind Kmart.
Thank you, Kaua‘i, for making this event so fabulous. And if you happened to miss it this year, you can catch it again next year on the first Saturday in November. We’ll look forward to seeing you!
Great job, everyone!

Disasters bring people together
Disasters bring people together. Neighbors that never talked are now each other’s friends helping each other in basic survival.
Politics is a dirty game, citizens suffer as partisans spin everything to fit their desired agenda of making the other guy fall. Politics has become a war of Republican vs. Democrat with the citizens of the U.S. losing on all fronts.
When Republicans in Congress make a goal that their No. 1 priority beyond all else is to deny anything President Obama proposes only stifles America.
Chris Christie, the governor of New Jersey and the keynote speaker at the 2012 Republican National convention and huge (and I mean huge) advocate for Mitt Romney, is praising the president for all he has done to expedite storm relief with less red tape, bureaucracy and promising a 15-minute rule on returning phone calls on anything to do with the East Coast disaster.
Seeing videos and photos of Republican Gov. Chris Christie praising the president, shaking hands and working with each other is a step in the right direction. Politicians need to learn from this and quit partisan warfare for the benefit of all America and the world.
It’s sad that it takes a disaster to do what’s pono. May this disaster bring dignity back to politics from this point forward.

False alarms
We now have a law passed to charge peoples’ businesses or homes that have security alarms systems up to $250 for KPD Officers to respond to false alarms.
There is a way to avoid these fines. Simply find a security alarm company that offers a two-way communication system.
With a two-way communication system the security employee can ask through the communication system if anyone is there in the home or business. If no one answers there is definitely a break in. Then they (security alarm system employee) can notify police dispatch to send officers to respond to the alarm activated.
It’s a win-win situation for you from getting fined and police officers can remain to attend to their sectors.
This is not an advertisement for Augie T’s Security Alarm Company. I think his (Augie T) company offers this type of alarm system mentioned above.
